Chu Ni Jien Gang Gwai Ler!

I am back to Singapore for another round of war which will last 3 weeks. I was early at KLIA the other day. Instead of wondering around to shop for things, I sat near this elderly couple at the waiting lounge. They are from Taiwan and has been travelling all around the world visiting their children in US, Uruguay and Aachen for months if I didn't hear them wrong. My mandarin is just half-tong and I broke the ice by greeting them first when I heard that they could speak Hokkien. Their Hokkien were also the authentic Taiwanese hokkien type, in return made my own Hokkien half-tong too :P

But it was a nice feeling seeing an elderly couple going travelling on their own. The elderly lady told me, when you're young, you work hard so that when you're old you can enjoy travelling like us. Typical advice that we usually get from our older family members but it still sounds very true - why not work hard while you're still capable of doing it..? I'll remind myself not to give up no matter how difficult a task can be - just cry all loud but still do it :)

I didn't ask for their names but after sitting around and chatting with them for 30 minutes, the Uncle passed me a fruit juice he got from his Brazilian airline while they had their snacks. I thanked them and the elderly lady gave me these last few golden words, "Chu Ni Jien Gang, Gwai Ler!" (which means wishing you good health and happiness). I smiled her at her and said the same.

I really admire couples who enjoy each other's company, especially at old age
